Strengthened Collaborations with Korea
A major new collaboration between the University of Auckland and Korea’s National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) will enhance the already tangible benefits to the relationship with our Centre for Automation and Robotic Engineering Sciences (CARES).
A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between UniServices and NST, allowing stronger collaborative ties between the two partners that will boost the future of science and technology research in New Zealand. NST institutions now have good reasons to include our University’s research capabilities in their research proposals, opening up possibilities for many future projects.
NST is Korea’s largest Government research organisation, comprising 25 government-funded science and technology research institutes across a broad range of fields, from civil engineering to green technology. This includes a number of partners that CARES is already working with, namely the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).
The positive news further solidifies CARES’s ongoing relationship with the ETRI – led by the Faculty of Engineering’s Professor Bruce MacDonald and Dr Ho Seok Anh – which already spans beyond a decade. This was initially prompted by Professor MacDonald and ETRI’s Healthbots Project in 2006. The Memorandum of Understanding additionally means that CARES’s active pursuit of new research opportunities with KIST can come to fruition.
