Incorporating robotic technologies into vineyards has the potential to revolutionise the industry.   Jamie Bell, a PhD student in the CARES team, gave a recent presentation on robotics at the Organic and Biodynamic Winegrowing Conference in Blenheim.  He noted that robots could one day be used in the vineyard to pluck and trim leaves around fruit, estimate yields, spray fruit and harvest bunches of grapes.   Bell is currently involved in our Government-funded Multipurpose Orchard Robotics research project, which is developing harvesting and pollinating robots for use in kiwifruit and apple orchards.  To find out more read the media article on stuff.co.nz: Chance robots will be a vine thing or head to our research page: Orchard Robots.
