
A total of 89 students from New Zealand, who qualified through the New Zealand Robot Olympiad 2024, were invited to participate in the International Robot Olympiad 2024/25, the world’s largest annual robotics competition for school students. The event took place in Busan, Korea, from January 16 to 22, 2025. Team New Zealand, led by Dr. Ho Seok Ahn, achieved remarkable success, securing second place globally. The team earned 10 Gold, 10 Silver, 13 Bronze, and 19 Technical awards. Notably, Team New Zealand triumphed in 10 out of the 14 categories they competed in, leaving a lasting impression on the 3,450 participants from 23 countries. Team New Zealand, in collaboration with Team Australia, successfully secured the bid to host next year’s International Robot Olympiad at the Gold Coast, with Dr. Ho Seok Ahn serving as the General Co-Chair. We will host the New Zealand Robot Olympiad 2025 in July, where the top students will be selected to represent New Zealand at the following year’s International Robot Olympiad.
International Robot Olympiad 2024/25
