Following lots of rescheduling in 2020, the New Zealand Robot Olympiad took place in December 2020, allowing teams to qualify for the International Robot Olympiad (IRO) which took place in January 2021. 50 students were selected to represent New Zealand at the competition, which was held remotely due to COVID-19. All recordings of robots were sent to the IRO Committee in Korea for judging.

Team NZ participated in 4 categories: Junior Creative Robot, Junior Robot in Movie, Senior Creative Robot and Senior Robot in Movie, and received 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 9 bronze medals as a team.

Congratulations all, and thank you to CARES staff who supported this competition.
